Nigeria Decides 2015
Today Nigerians showed the leaders, all those propagating uneasy elections and indeed the world that we. Are a peaceful and peaceable people.
The patriotic way people turned out to vote was astounding!
They say you always think your case is worse till you hear the other man's story; well today proved the truth in that.
Was out waiting to go to the polling unit at 5:30am and there were no vehicles, had almost given up and gone back home an hour later when this vehicle comes out. Now enroute mile2,we drove past hundreds of people trekking to their polling units, even women with kids strapped to their backs!
At the polling centre, when I complained about the difficulty getting there, was told different stories, all amazing.
Some people trekked from Iyana-Iba to Festac, someone even rode a bike from Okoko to Festac! Wow! Such patrotism!
I commend INEC for their co-ordination - Yes there were some lapses(huge at times) but we certainly wouldn't have being expecting less;seeing as this was the first time card readers were used in the country. We know this system will be perfected.
I commend the adhoc staff of INEC,wonderful people! It sure wasn't easy! I commend specially the Presiding Officer of 24/04/03/048 Nkechi for her courage in handling a job handled by three officers in other polling units singlehandedly, without complaints or raised voice - even when a certain party agent took it upon himself to try to teach her her duties obnoxiously, even when the voters complained and made snide remarks, she calmly absorbed it all.
I commend the voters, wonderful citizens of this great country of ours who came out enmass to vote, tirelessly walking around trying to get their polling units or like in my unit walking the length of fifth avenue searching for unit 048 and finally forcing them to co-opt a staff to preside over the unit as the assigned officers were a no-show!,who relentlessly assisted other voters by moving them with their vehicles as far a distance as they could even without enough fuel - Mr Ndubuisi,God bless you sir!
I commend the men on uniform who kept the peace. I don't think I've ever seen the police and customs stand together, but today;for this election, they posed a united front!
Whilst I commend the Citizenry for being peaceful,I enjoin we all do it again when the final results are announced soon. No matter how much any party has offered you, remember that it won't protect your children should you disturb the peace. So in the same spirit you went out to vote today, disregarding e rain in some areas, the bomb-scare in some and the shootings in others, accept the results regardless of the party announced as winner.
I conclude with Timi Dakolo's talk of a great nation, that we are. Its rough right now but if we all stand together we will move this great nation forward!
